With roots dating back to the 1940s, Seward Motor Freight, Inc., was incorporated in 1969 under the leadership of Wayne and Joan Tanderup. Throughout the following decades, the company received long haul permits from the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) and earned contract authority. Seward Motor Freight also acquired many small carriers, broadening its range and services.

Joan Tanderup continues to serve as the company’s president, assisted by Joyce Helge as vice president of operations, Erich Helge as vice president of safety, and Ron Niemoth as corporate secretary-treasurer. In 2018, Ms. Tanderup earned the accolade of “Outstanding Woman in Business.” Seward Motor Freight has received several honors as well, including successive awards from the Nebraska Trucking Association for its exemplary safety program.

The company gives back to the community by supporting community colleges and universities, as well as groups such as the National Federation for the Blind and Nebraska Christian Record Services. Its professional affiliations include the American Trucking Associations and the Truckload Carriers Association.
